Extra Helpings: Frozen Birds

February2

I froze fresh a package of chicken legs and thighs 4 months ago… are they still good?

Yes… generally speaking. Chicken parts will last about 6 months (a whole chicken will last about 9 months). It’s a good idea when freezing meat to remove it from the original packaging and place it in a heavy duty plastic freezer bag. Make sure you squeeze out as much air as possible from the bag. Heavy duty freezer paper from a butcher is also good. You’ll know if the chicken should be thrown out if it looks dry and has light gray spots on it… this is freezer burn.
