Gadget Tree: Pi Day with Dexas Pizza Tools

March14

Okay, all you math nerds, today it’s your time to shine because we’re celebrating Pi Day (or Π-Day if you prefer) with a pizza pie party using the fabuloso Dexas Pizza tools!

Are you confused? For all of you who struggled with math in school (including me), “Π” is the Greek letter that’s often shortened to 3.14 when you want to find the circumference of a circle. Today is March 14… and so, that’s right, 3/14.

Did your eyes glaze over? Back to the Pi Day with Dexas pizza party!

My pals at Dexas International have three fantastic kitchen tools that will help make your pizza party a success, whether you’re serving thin crust, Deep Dish style or flatbread pizza!

Dexas Pizza Board

Slide your pizza right out of the oven onto Dexas’ 16”-round polypropylene Pizza Board and carry it to the table with the convenient metal carrying rack. Remember, the board is not oven safe, but it can certainly handle a piping hot pizza! I like this board because it can also double as a serving tray.

The reversible pizza board has groves to guide you so you’ll always cut a perfect slice. And to get that perfect slice, Dexas has two great options.

Pi Day with Dexas Pizza Roller

For thin crust pizza, the ergonomic Pizza Cutter Roller lets you apply pressure down on the wheel, so you can navigate your way through all that gooey delicious cheese. The compact roller is easy to control and has a comfortable palm-held grip.

I’ve used the Pizza Cutter Roller to cut pastry dough, but it’s also great for flat breads and sandwiches.

Pi Day with Pizza Cutter Rocker Blade

Here in Chicago, we love our Deep-Dish Style pizza. Dexas has the perfect 15-inch Pizza Cutter Rocker Blade to cut through even the deepest, thickest crust. The polypropylene blade rocks back and forth with just a little bit of pressure on the double handle. The Pizza Cutter Rocker Blade also works on thin pizza crusts (see the image below!).

All of the pizza tools are completely dishwasher safe, too! Every day can be a Pi Day with Dexas Pizza Tools!

Gadget Tree: Dexas Collapsible Salad Spinner

February10

A salad spinner is a wonderful kitchen gadget, but most of them take up too much space (which most kitchens don’t have).

Dexas Turbo Fan Collapsible Salad Spinner

Problem solved: The Dexas Turbo Fan Collapsible Salad Spinner.

This 4½-quart salad spinner is different because it collapses to just 5-inches. When you’re ready to use it… pop it into place. Think about the salad spinner you use now… big and bulky, right? Takes up a lot of valuable kitchen real estate, right?

Not this one.

This durable plastic salad spinner does an amazing job of drying greens, vegetables and berries because it uses a multi-blade fan and centrifugal force to spin out the water. There’s a push-button brake on top to stop the spinning.

The non-skid base keeps it from dancing all over the counter… which is always my issue when using salad spinners. (It couldn’t be me, could it?)

And, of course, I really love it because the bowl and basket are top-rack dishwasher safe. The top can easily be taken apart and cleaned.

My friends at Dexas International asked me to give Turbo Fan Collapsible Salad Spinner a whirl. I used it when I made my Roasted Potato and Kale Salad… great recipe made even easier with a great salad spinner!

Here’s a video so you can see it in action!

Gadget Tree: Rolling Dough Docker

December2

Lee asks: I got this at a Secret Santa exchange, but have no idea what it is!

 Rolling Dough Docker

You were gifted, Lee, with a “rolling dough docker,” a very common baking tool that’s like a rolling pin…but, in this case, with spikes. The process of “docking” makes dozens of little holes in the dough you’re working with, which allows steam to escape while baking.

The rolling dough docker is used on flatbreads, pizza dough, pie crusts (when blind baking) and pastry dough to keep the dough from bubbling up unevenly. That way your dough is flaky, crisp and flat, which is important if you’re topping or filling the baked dough with something.

Your rolling docker, also called a pastry pricker, is made of stainless steel and plastic, so it’s probably dishwasher safe.

A rolling dough docker is a kitchen gadget that’s great to have if you bake a lot… but a fork usually can get the job done just as well!

Gadget Tree: The Pie Weight Disc

November25

Here’s a great gift or stocking stuffer for the pie-maker on your list: The Pie Weight Disc.

Pie Weight Disc from Williams-Sonoma

Pie Weight Disc from Williams-Sonoma

Some pies call for “blind baking” the crust before filling it with deliciousness. When you blind bake an unfilled piecrust, you need pie weights to make sure the crust keeps its beautiful pie shape and doesn’t rise and shrink while baking.

Ah, pie weights. What a pain. They can be stainless steel beads on a chain, loose ceramic beads or even rice and beans piled in the middle. Sounds like a hassle, doesn’t it?

Trust me…it really is.

The Pie Weight Disc from Williams-Sonoma takes care of that. The daisy-shaped gadget has silicone petals and a silicone handle and a perforated steel center to let moisture escape so you don’t wind up with a soggy crust. It fits a 9-to-11-inch pie pan.

Best part: It’s dishwasher safe.

So, that takes care of one gift on your list…right??? Get that shopping done early this year!
