Plated + Served: Mexican Wedding Cookies

January23

I grew up with Mexican Wedding Cookies… little puffs of melt-in-your-mouth happiness… at holidays, christenings, weddings. If there was a celebration, these were on the sweets table.

Since these shortbread-like cookies are so easy to make, they are popular all over the world. You may know them as a Snowdrops, Viennese Sugar Balls or a Russian Tea Cake.

I like to toast the nuts because it intensifies their flavor in the cookie. And, most important, I always double-dip the cookies in the powdered sugar… it gives them a nice finish!

One of my favorite Halloween activities… decorating GingerDEAD Men!

Here’s a super easy recipe I came up with for my friends at  Right@Home. What makes the  Save-A-Step Gingerbread Skeletons recipe so simple is the “secret” ingredient: boxed cake mix! Let the kids help decorate these little men with their favorite candy or sweet topping. Make them scary or BOO-tiful… but get creative!

All right, Halloween isn’t until next week, but I figure we all need a little extra time to get ready… don’t we?

Here’s the Halloween version of those Piñata cookies I Tweeted about earlier this year…

Okay, okay… feeling guilty now for not really wanting to go through all of the hassle of making those Halloween Piñata cookies? There’s an App for that.

I knew someone who once wrapped himself in aluminum foil on Halloween just to get a free burrito at Chipotle. This year, you don’t have to be quite so over-the-top to grab a free “Boorito” at Chipotle on the 31st.

Don’t Forget: The kids need to eat something healthy before they go trick-or-treating… how about a Tentacle Pot Pie?

Finally… Cadbury and their Screme Egg Zombies…
